The first CI I participated in was painting the wall in the park and the walls of a canal which were covered in grafetti. Because we painted over so much grafetti in La Paz that week we helped start off a anti-grafetti campaign within the entire city. This compaign allowed for the local people to get involved with removing the grafetti that covered their city. While we were painting the wall I thought it was so cool when the community members would stop by to see who we were and what we were doing. THey would also take pictures of us, people they didn't even know but the appreciated what we were doing so much that they wanted pictures of us bettering their community. We also cleaned the garbage and leaf debris throughtout the park to clean it up and make it safer for the children to play at. When we pulled up to the park I remembered thinking.... this is a park?..... by the time we left I felt that it looked much more like a park than when we arrived.
Kelsey (California) and some volunteers sweeping the rocks off the road
The second CI I participated in was a road side cleanup. The main job that I did was sweep the large rocks off the side of the road and onto the side of the road. Other people picked up garbage and others gardened the plant life on the side of the road. We worked with another group of people so it was a great time to get to know more locals. About half way through it we ended up getting rained out so we ended up getting brought back to a beach house to eat lunch and relax.
